Membership Terms and Conditions

Unless otherwise specified, the term ‘members’ refers to all individuals with paid membership from all membership tiers including HKPM Friends Individual (single & dual), Family, Youth and Seniors Membership; HKPM Patron and any members of other membership tiers which may be introduced by Hong Kong Palace Museum Limited as it deems appropriate.

1. Membership

1.1 Unless otherwise specified, the Hong Kong Palace Museum ("HKPM") Membership is valid for 12 months from the date of purchase.

1.2 Memberships are classified into the following types, each with different annual fee.

1.2.1 HKPM Friends - Individual (Single & Dual)

1.2.2 HKPM Friends - Youth

1.2.3 HKPM Friends - Family

1.2.4 HKPM Friends - Seniors

1.2.5 HKPM Patron (Single & Dual)

1.2.6 HKPM Friends and M+ Member Combo Membership

1.2.6.1 This membership is valid for 13 months from the date of purchase.

1.2.6.2 Membership confirmation emails will be sent to members by Hong Kong Palace Museum Limited and M Plus Museum Limited separately.

1.2.7 HKPM and M+ Combo Patron Membership

1.2.7.1 This membership is valid for 12 months from the date of purchase.

1.2.7.2 Membership confirmation emails will be sent to members by Hong Kong Palace Museum Limited and M Plus Museum Limited separately.

1.3 Applicants must present a valid identification document or full-time student card to purchase HKPM Friends - Youth membership or be eligible as the youth member under the Family Membership, or present a valid identification document for verification during their first visit to the museum.

1.4 Youth member (aged 18 or above) and the guardian of a youth member (aged below 18) under the Family Membership must present a school handbook, student card, birth certificate, or other identification document of the youth member for verification during their first visit to the Museum.

1.5 Applicants must pay the full membership fee for HKPM Friends Membership if the supporting document for other membership types cannot be provided.

1.6 Gift memberships (not applicable to HKPM Friends and M+ Member Combo Membership and HKPM and M+ Combo Patron Membership) are not redeemable for cash or other services and must be activated within 90 days from the purchasing date. The membership will be valid for 12 months from the date of redemption. If it is not redeemed within such prescribed period, the membership will be forfeited automatically without notice and without any refund or compensation.

1.7 For online membership purchase (for all membership types except HKPM Friends - Family), a confirmation email with a temporary admission QR code will be sent to each (adult) member’s registered email. The QR code will be valid for 14 days from the purchase date. Members can download and log into the WKCD mobile app to access their eMembership account and use the eMembership card and digital voucher codes for museum / galleries admission and other members benefits upon successful membership purchase.

1.8 For online purchase of HKPM Friends - Family, a confirmation email with a temporary admission QR code will be sent to respective adult member(s) separately. The membership information of the Family - Youth members and their admission QR code(s) will be included in the confirmation email of the primary member. All eMembership cards and digital voucher codes of the Family – Youth members can be found under the Family – Adults’ account(s) of the same family membership on the WKCD mobile app.

1.9 Combo Membership is only applicable for applicants who do not have an active HKPM or M+ membership.

1.10 Membership fees are non-refundable.

1.11 Memberships are non-transferable and shall only be used by the member’s own use only. Designated HKPM staff shall be entitled to check the valid identification documents of members for verification purposes.

1.12 Starting from 27 June 2023, physical membership card will no longer be issued. eMembership card and digital voucher codes for museum / galleries admission and members benefits will be available on the WKCD mobile app. Physical membership cards issued prior to 27 June 2023 will remain valid in the membership year until they expire or are cancelled.

1.13 If the physical membership card (if applicable) is lost, stolen, or damaged, the member must report this to the HKPM immediately.

2. Membership Renewal

2.1 Memberships can be renewed during the membership year or within 30 days after expiry date, but not on the day of purchase.

2.2 Renewal is allowed only once per membership year.

2.3 Renewing members must retain the same type of membership. The member could only purchase a new membership type after their current membership expires if they wish to do so.

2.4 Renewals for individuals enrolled in the same membership package cannot be changed.

2.5 Renewals do not allow for the addition of new members.

2.6 Renewal reminder emails will only be sent to primary members (the purchaser).

2.7 In the event when an original membership is not eligible for renewal, all adult members will receive an email reminder to purchase new membership.

2.8 The renewed membership will be effective upon expiration of the current membership.

3. Membership upgrade

3.1 HKPM Friends may upgrade their membership to a Patron membership, or apply for a different membership type with a higher value by email us ([email protected]) and upon payment of the full membership fee for the ungraded membership. Membership fee paid for the old membership will be refunded to the member on a pro-rata basis within 8 weeks of the date of membership upgrade.

3.2 Members cannot downgrade their membership from higher tier.

3.3 The upgraded membership will be valid for 12 months from the date of membership upgrade.

3.4 Membership upgrades are not available to Family membership.

3.5 Unredeemed benefits from the old membership will be forfeited and a new set of annual benefits will be granted for the upgraded membership.

3.6 A new eMembership card and digital voucher codes can be found from the membership account on WKCD mobile app upon the activation of new membership.

4. Use of membership benefits

4.1 Members must present their own valid eMembership card / membership card (if applicable) for admission to the museum and to enjoy benefits or offers.

4.2 Members must observe all house rules and regulations of the HKPM, which may be updated from time to time.

4.3 HKPM reserves the right to deny admission or to request a member to leave the museum if they fail to comply with any house rules and regulations.

4.4 Unless otherwise stipulated, all bookings for exhibitions, events, programmes, or other member benefits or offers shall be made available to members on a first-come, first-served basis.

4.5 HKPM reserves the right to amend, suspend, or terminate any benefit or offer at any time without prior notice and without any refund or compensation.

4.6 Individual exhibitions, events, programmes, benefits, or offers are subject to specific terms and conditions.

4.7 Discount offers are non-refundable and non-exchangeable for cash or services, and cannot be used in conjunction with other promotional offers.

4.8 HKPM may from time to time change the opening hours of the museum, close the museum or any part of it temporarily, or suspend or cancel any exhibition, event or programme without prior notice and without compensation, due to repair, maintenance, inclement weather, special events or if the HKPM considers the circumstances so require. Members are advised to check the HKPM website before their visit.

4.9 Unlimited General Admission is available at all membership tiers by presenting valid eMembership card / membership card (if applicable), without prior booking. This is not applicable to special exhibitions (Patrons are excluded).

4.10 Entry to Special Exhibitions

4.10.1 Members must present their own valid eMembership card / membership card (if applicable) at the entrance checking point. For entry into special exhibitions, members must present their Museum Admission Voucher Codes (“admission codes”) / Museum Admission Voucher (“voucher”) within the admission codes / voucher validity period.

4.10.2 Each admission code / voucher is valid for one person’s entry to special exhibition and can be used only once.

4.10.3 Admission codes / vouchers are non-transferable (except Patron) and non-exchangeable. Screencap and copy of the admission codes and expired, damaged, modified, defaced, or photocopied vouchers will not be accepted. No replacement will be given for lost vouchers. Expired admission codes / vouchers will not be extended or refunded.

4.10.4 Use of the admission code(s) / voucher(s) is subject to the terms and conditions included under the admission code(s) / printed on the voucher(s).

4.11 “Plus 3” entry code(s) usage of Patrons’ Guests

4.11.1 “Plus 3” entry codes must be presented at the entrance of the museum / Galleries by HKPM Patron for the admission of up to three (3) guests per day before the expiry date. Regardless of age, each entry code admits one person only within the same day.

4.11.2 This entry code is valid for single entry of the museum / Gallery 8 / Gallery 9 within the same day (For details, please refer to the Terms and Conditions of the entry code). Re-entry is not permitted.

4.11.3 This entry code is for entry to all general exhibitions (Galleries 1 to 7) and special exhibitions (Galleries 8 & 9). Individual exhibition, event, or programme will be subject to specific terms and conditions.

4.11.4 This entry code cannot be exchanged for cash or other services.

4.11.5 This entry code is non-transferable and non-exchangeable. Screencap and copy of this entry code is invalid. Expired, modified or copied entry code will not be accepted.

5. Membership cancellation

5.1. Members may terminate their membership at any time by contacting our HKPM team. Once the verification and processing of the membership account termination is confirmed, HKPM will send an acknowledgment email with the termination date of the membership to the member. All unused membership benefits/offers will be cancelled/forfeited from the membership termination date.

5.2 HKPM may also terminate the membership of a member at its complete discretion and in such circumstances may provide the member with as much prior notice as reasonably practicable. Upon expiry of the notice period, all unused benefits/offers will be cancelled/forfeited.

6. General

6.1 HKPM reserves the right to amend these terms and conditions anytime without prior notice and without providing any reason. Updated terms and conditions will be provided on the HKPM website. All members shall be bound by the latest terms and conditions.

6.2 HKPM has the absolute discretion on matters in relation to the approval of memberships, event bookings, programmes, offers, or benefits.

6.3 In case of any dispute, the decision of HKPM shall be final.

6.4 In the event of any discrepancy between the English and Chinese versions of these terms and conditions, the English version shall prevail.

6.5 These terms and conditions constitute an agreement between HKPM and each member respectively. A person who is not a party to this agreement shall not have any rights under the Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Ordinance (Cap. 623) to enforce any term of this agreement.

6.6 These terms and conditions shall be governed by the laws of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China.
