As Shanghai’s new city emblem and cultural landmark, the Shanghai Museum East has been fully operational since the end of 2024. It not only boasts upgraded permanent galleries of ancient Chinese art but also introduces new themes and interactive spaces. Serving as an important window for the world to learn more about China, the Shanghai Museum East stands as hub where cultures meet and exchange.
Dr Xiaobo Chu, Director of the Shanghai Museum will share insights on the Shanghai Museum’s initiatives. Highlighting the Musem’s exhibition planning endeavours, Dr Chu will delve into the four major exhibition series they have initiated. Among these, the “Dialogue with the World” exhibition series features the ongoing exhibition “On Top of the Pyramid: The Civilization of Ancient Egypt”, showcasing the latest archaeological findings while offering a rich museum experience for visitors. This exhibition has become a global sensation in 2024–2025, making the Museum a primary destination for many visitors to Shanghai.
Additionally, Dr Louis Ng, Director of the Hong Kong Palace Museum, will moderate a conversation with Dr Chu. Together, they will discuss topics such as how museums can navigate the delicate balance between tradition and innovation, as well as the challenges museums are facing in the future.
