13.11.2025

In the lead-up to the highly anticipated special exhibition, “Ancient Egypt Unveiled: Treasures from Egyptian Museums”, which runs in Gallery 9 of the Hong Kong Palace Museum (HKPM or the Museum) from 20 November 2025 to 31 August 2026, the Museum is delighted to introduce a diverse collection of over 140 themed merchandise items. Drawing on the rich stories of ancient Egypt, the collection blends history with a creative twist. The merchandise will be available in two new themed pop-up stores, as well as the existing gift shop, ART EXPRESS by The Commercial Press, at the Museum starting from 20 November.

Jointly organised by the HKPM and the Supreme Council of Antiquities of Egypt (SCA), the exhibition is proudly supported by Bank of China (Hong Kong), the Museum’s Strategic Partner, with Cathay and UnionPay International as the Major Sponsors. “Ancient Egypt Unveiled” will be the largest, most comprehensive and longest-running display of ancient Egyptian treasures ever showcased in Hong Kong, featuring an extraordinary collection of 250 precious artefacts on loan from the SCA of Egypt, drawn from seven major museums across Egypt and recent archaeological discoveries from Saqqara. The precious artefacts encompass monumental statues, stone stelae, mummy coffins and masks, jewellery, everyday objects, and animal mummies*.

Explore over 140 merchandise items inspired by ancient Egypt, including the first-ever blind box featuring plush charms

To celebrate the exhibition, two brand-new themed stores will open at the Museum on 20 November 2025—one outside the Palace Academy on the LG/F and another outside Gallery 9 on the 4/F. These stores will complement the existing gift shop located on the G/F, ART EXPRESS by The Commercial Press. Together, they will offer over 140 merchandise items inspired by ancient Egyptian artefacts which blend history with contemporary design**. The collection includes plush bag charms, tote bags, soft toys, stationery, and a variety of lifestyle products.

The HKPM’s exclusive merchandise collection channels the mystique and symbolism of ancient Egypt into playful, stylish keepsakes. Highlights include a delightful range of soft toys, such as the symbolically significant blue hippo and black cat. For collectors and curious minds, the Museum is launching, for the first time, the Ancient Egypt Unveiled Blind Box series, which offers six different designs of plush charms inspired by representative elements of ancient Egyptian civilisation—including mummies, pharaohs, and canopic jars—with each box holding a mystery waiting to be discovered.

Other standout items include the Eye of Re and Mummy Totes for lovers of bold designs; thoughtful essentials like Mummy Socks and a Mummy Thermal Bottle; and a Canopic Jar-inspired series of knitted bags and crossbody pouches adds a quirky twist to everyday storage. For those who prefer tiny mementos, the stores offer a rich variety of options, such as a charming array of enamel magnets designed to resemble ancient Egyptian symbols like canopic jars, deities, and mummies, as well as metal bookmarks that bring a sense of ritual to reading.

For those seeking a sensory experience, a luxurious line of home perfumes and wardrobe fragrances—created in collaboration with wellness brand Rituals—evokes the ambience of ancient temples and timeless elegance. Each fragrance offers a unique journey: Positivity uplifts with bergamot, neroli, and vetiver; Love envelops with raspberry, rose, and patchouli; and Gratitude brings serenity through peach blossom, lavender, and vanilla.

In addition, renowned culinary brand DALLOYAU will launch a pop-up truck featuring the exclusive DA CHOCO crispy chocolate, available in Middle Eastern-inspired flavours and packaging adorned with patterns inspired by the HKPM.

Fun learning programmes encourage exploration of ancient Egyptian culture

The HKPM is organising a series of learning and engagement programmes to complement the exhibition. Leading them are two special talks by Professor Yan Haiying from the Department of History at Peking University on 19 November, and Dr Mohamed Ismail Khaled, Secretary-General of Egypt’s Supreme Council of Antiquities on 20 November. Both talks will be live-streamed via the HKPM’s WeChat video account.

The Museum will offer an audio tour designed by a renowned Egyptologist exclusively for this exhibition, equipping visitors with an indispensable tool to explore over 20 highlights in this exhibition. Also available are regular or on-demand tours led by curators or docents for the general public and students alike. All tours will be available in Cantonese, Putonghua, or English.

Other learning offerings include interactive workshops, performing arts events, and more public talks. They are designed to engage audiences of all ages and foster an appreciation of the rich culture of Egypt in a fun and accessible manner. Highlights include:

  • Little Pharaohs Family Workshop and Tour: Families will discover the origins and development of ancient Egyptian jewellery; then craft their own distinctive necklaces adorned with animal amulets. Participants are encouraged to don Egyptian-inspired costumes for an immersive experience.
  • Discover Pyramid Workshop: Junior architects will investigate the historical development of pyramids, unveiling the secrets of hidden chambers and mysterious passages. Participants can exercise their creativity by designing a pyramid-themed marble run.
  • Create Your Own Cat Temple Workshop: In Egypt, cats were regarded as sacred companions and symbols of divine protection. This workshop explores the wonders of sacred animal cults in ancient Egyptian culture, uncover recent archaeological discoveries of the Egyptian Cat Temple, and create a personalised feline-inspired temple model.

Furthermore, the Museum will also present a special Egyptian dance performance as part of the Bank of China (Hong Kong) Presents: HKPM SHOWTIME! on 22 November, and will support the 8th Hong Kong International Egyptian Dance Festival, both featuring acclaimed folkloric dance masters from Egypt. Please visit the Museum’s website for details of these events and tours, and for registration.

To tie in with the exhibition opening, the HKPM is introducing various special offers, including a “Blind Box + Full Access Flex Ticket” Combo ticket package and Public Guided Tours. In addition, from now until 30 November 2025, new, returning, and renewing members of HKPM Friends will receive a special-edition plush bag charm. As a unique collectible exclusive to HKPM Friends, this not-for-sale item will add a delightful touch to the membership experience.
