Conservation and Historic Preservation Workshop (Painting & Calligraphy)—Lining

Curious about how artworks are conserved in museums? In this workshop conservation experts teach lining, an essential technique in Chinese painting mounting and conservation.

This workshop consists of

  • a brief introduction to the basic concepts, development, materials, and tools of Chinese painting conservation;
  • an introduction to lining and multi-layer mounting;
  • a demonstration of lining techniques; and
  • a hands-on session in which participants will practice lining, and bring their work home.*

*Artworks require time to dry, and participants will need to return to the Palace Academy to collect their works after the session. Arrangements for this will be announced during the workshop.

Printed artworks (A4 size) will be provided at the workshop.

The workshop is recommended for participants age 12 or above.
