Create Your Intaglio Prints: Summer Food (Family Workshop)

The exquisite cloisonné enamel ice chest on display in Gallery 5 was used to store “ice-bathed” fruits, syrup liquor, and various items. It was a real treasure for the emperor and imperial ladies to beat the heat in summer. How would you keep your cooling treats instead? In this workshop, you will learn about printmaking techniques and create intaglio prints of your favourite summer food. “Preserve” your cooling treats in this traditional way!

The workshop includes:

  • An introduction of traditional Chinese printing techniques and a demonstration of basic printmaking techniques
  • Engraving a polyester plate with your own design and creating unique intaglio prints

Suitable for families with children aged 7–12. This workshop requires each child to be accompanied by an adult. No additional ticket is needed for the accompanying adult. Each pair of participants (one child and one adult) will receive one set of materials to make one plate for printing. The number of prints produced will depend on the participants’ progress.

Reminder:
Avoid wearing loose fitting clothing because oil-based ink will be used in the workshop.
