HKPM 1st Anniversary Talk Series: Meeting Challenges—Sharing My Museum Experiences

From 1978 to 2016, the Palace Museum, Taipei experienced the impact and challenges of various social changes and as a result underwent significant transformation. Director Fung has been deeply involved in this process from the outset. Focusing on delivering the tasks assigned to her, she proposed specific and practical solutions and played a major role in decision making. She later rose to lead the decision-making process, opening up new horizons for the museum. The process has made her fully understand the need for a contemporary museum to respond to the pulse of the times and move forward with it; and only such innovative thinking would win the recognition and positive reception of visitors and achieve the museum’s core mission of education.

This talk will cover the following three points:

  1. “Innovating within tradition, blending art with life”, pioneering creative and cultural innovation in museums:
From the launch of creative and cultural products at the Palace Museum, Taipei and the associated vibrancy of related supply chains to creating sales and influencing the museum sector.
  2. The arrival of the information technology era:
From digital archives and museums without walls to new media art creations, mobile museums, and cloud-based museum services.
  3. "Achieving art and cultural equity between the northern and southern regions of Taiwan”:
The opportunity and process of establishing the Southern Branch of Palace Museum, Taipei.

Hosted by the Hong Kong Palace Museum, this talk is part of the “HKPM 1st Anniversary Talk Series”.
