North from Beijing Drum and Bell Towers, South to Gate of Perpetual Peace, the Beijing Central Axis is built around the Forbidden City, connecting key buildings such as the Gate of Heavenly Peace and the Imperial Ancestral Temple. As the longest urban axis in the world, it witnessed the development of Chinese culture and history. In 2024, the Beijing Central Axis was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
This documentary explores the lives of individuals who live along or study the Beijing Central Axis, from architect to gourmet, sound artist to traditional craftsman, both Chinese and foreign. Through the stories of these individuals, this documentary dives into the cultural heritage and transformations along the Beijing Central Axis from the perspectives of architecture, food culture, intangible cultural heritage, and cultural exchange.
