Dr Shan Jixiang has successively served as Director of the Beijing Municipal Cultural Heritage Bureau, Director of the National Administration of Cultural Heritage, Director of The Palace Museum, amongst many other esteemed positions. In this talk, Dr Shan will share his innovative approaches to closely integrating traditional culture into modern society. Through a diversity of activities and dedication as a cultural conservator, he will illustrate how the public can appreciate and better understand historical artifacts, allowing cultural heritage to be revitalised in the modern era.
Organised by the Hong Kong Palace Museum, the “HKPM Master Talk Series” invites experts from around the world with outstanding research achievements in the fields of art and culture to offer multi-perspective and comprehensive explorations of the history and academic values of their respective fields. The series further fosters mutual exchanges between China and the West, bringing new life to the Chinese traditional culture.

Former Director, The Palace Museum
Dr Shan Jixiang has successively served as Director of the Beijing Municipal Cultural Heritage Bureau, Director of the National Administration of Cultural Heritage, Director of The Palace Museum, amongst many other esteemed positions. In 2014, he won the Forbes Prize for his outstanding achievements and contributions to heritage preservation. He is the first Chinese to receive this honour.
