HKPM Talk Series | Conservation Case Studies from The Palace Museum (Part 5)

The talk will feature five experts from the Palace Museum’s Department of Conservation, as well as Institute of Conservation Science, each sharing their research and techniques in diverse fields of artefact restoration:

  1. The Mechanical Structure and Restoration of Antique Clocks by Yang Xiaochen, Associate Research Fellow and Deputy Section Chief, Department of Conservation
  2. Yellow Male Court Robe with Cloud and Gold Dragon of the Qianlong Reign: Analysis of Cultural Value and Scientific Conservation Strategies by Cui Zheng, Associate Research Fellow and Deputy Section Chief, Department of Conservation
  3. Conservation and Restoration of the Embroidered Robe on the White Sandalwood Avalokiteśvara Statue in Yuhua Pavilion, the Palace Museum by Wang Xu, Associate Research Fellow, Department of Conservation
  4. Optimisation and Practice of the Seismic Protection System for Cultural Relics in the Palace Museum by Zhao Shoujiang, Associate Research Fellow, Department of Conservation Science
  5. Case Studies on the Raw Materials, Production Techniques, and Analysis of Paper Artefacts in Traditional Chinese Handmade Paper by Qu Yajie, Associate Research Fellow, Department of Conservation Science

This talk is in line with the Hong Kong Palace Museum Conservator-in-Residence Programme 2025–2026, a government-funded programme that aims to raise public awareness of innovative strategies for the conservation and management of artefacts.
