Art is among the most captivating aspects of ancient Egyptian culture for modern audiences. Showcased in museums around the world, the ancient Egyptian artefacts and artworks often attract global audiences to appreciate the essence of the ancient civilisation. Yet, whether modern people share similar aesthetic with ancient Egyptians remains an intriguing topic for discussion. This talk will focus on the artistic elements and styles of Ancient Egypt, exploring not only the unique achievements of ancient Egyptian art, but also its resonating features with other civilisations. The speaker will also discuss the role of art in the everyday life of ancient Egyptians, as well as how it reflected their material life and spiritual world.
This talk accompanies the special exhibition “Ancient Egypt Unveiled: Treasures from Egyptian Museums”, which is on view in Gallery 9 at the Hong Kong Palace Museum from 20 November 2025 to 31 August 2026. The exhibition is jointly organised by the Hong Kong Palace Museum and the Supreme Council of Antiquities of Egypt.
