Deputy Director of the Palace Museum

Wang Yuegong is the Deputy Director and a research fellow of the Palace Museum, Beijing, holding concurrent posts in the Museum as the Director of the Institute of Court Opera and postdoctoral supervisor at the Postdoctoral Research Centre. He plays an active role in overseeing the Museum’s collection management, exhibitions, cultural enterprise, and publications.

Since joining the Palace Museum, Wang's primary focus has been on the conservation, cataloguing, and researching of court objects, as well as the planning and curating of a wide range of exhibitions. Under his leadership, the Museum concluded a large-scale cataloguing project of its entire collection of court objects. Wang’s academic specialisation lies in the art and cultural relics of Tibetan Buddhism and court opera, and he has been entrusted on many occasions by the National Cultural Heritage Administration to appraise and grade treasures from their sister museums’ collections. He has directed the planning and curating of numerous exhibitions at the Palace Museum, across China, and overseas, including “Lingering Voice of the Sages: The Culture of Qin” at the Palace of Accumulated Purity, “Lightness of Essence: Tibetan Buddhism Relics of the Palace Museum”, “Beyond Boundaries: Cartier and the Palace Museum Craftsmanship and Restoration Exhibition”, “Beauty Unites Us—Chinese Art from the Vatican Museums”, “Mirroring the Heart of Heaven and Earth—Ideals and Images in the Chinese Study”, and many more.
