The Palace Academy Summer Art-venture Series#

Embark on a lively and engaging journey at the Hong Kong Palace Museum. Experience the thrill of being an archaeologist for a day!

Step into the daily life of archaeologists with your child and explore ancient life and culture through simulated excavation experience. By exploring the shapes, patterns and functions of various pottery artifacts, you will gain fascinating insights into Chinese civilisation.

#Starting today, those who register for programmes under “The Palace Academy Summer Art-venture Series” will enjoy an exclusive limited-time 50% discount on the “HKPM Friends – Family” membership offered by the HKPM on the event day.

 

What you will get from this event:

  • Discover the intriguing stories behind the artefacts of Majiayao culture, including the meaning of different patterns, the shapes and functions, through interactive games and a guided tour in gallery.
  • Search for buried treasures and experience the daily work of archaeologists through simulated activities such as excavation, measurement, and documentation, deepening the understanding of archaeology.
  • Explore visual elements and design your own unique patterns on the pottery. You will even get to take your replica home as a souvenir.
  • Receive a certificate upon completing this one-day course, in recognition of your learning and creative performance.

 

Event timetable:

10:30 am–11:30 am Discover fun facts about archaeology and experience the work of an archaeologist firsthand
11:30 am–12:30 pm Travel through time in Gallery 6 to explore the artefacts and learn about the fascinating stories behind pottery
12:30 pm–2:00 pm Enjoy a self-arranged lunch and free visit to Galleries 1 to 7 (except those temporarily closed)
2:00 pm–4:30 pm Become a designer to create your pottery patterns, do sharing, and receive certificate

 

Please note:

  • No prior experience in artistic creation is required. Past participants of “Little Archaeologists (Family Workshop)” are welcome to register for this summer camp again.
  • Suitable for children aged 5 to 10. Each child must be accompanied by an adult. No additional registration is needed for the accompanying adult. Each group may consist of up to two people, and will receive one set of materials.
  • Participants will come into contact with soil and sand during the workshop. We recommend you bring a small towel for cleaning and/or wear suitable outfits.
  • Participants should make their own lunch arrangements. Food and drinks are not allowed inside the galleries.
  • The organiser reserves the right to cancel the event in case of an insufficient number of participants. Ticket fee will be refunded in full in accordance with the procedures.
  • Exhibition ticket arrangement: This registration fee includes standard admission tickets for registered adults and children aged 7 to 10. Participants may visit Galleries 1 to 7 on the day of the event (except those temporarily closed). Children aged 6 or below may enter for free.

Age limit

Suitable for children aged 5 to 10. Each child must be accompanied by an adult. No additional registration is needed for the accompanying adult. Each group may consist of up to two people, and will receive one set of materials.

Remarks
  • Please enter the Museum through the Palace Academy (LG/F). For any changes to the arrangement, please refer to the information in the Museum on the day of the event.
  • Please arrive at the venue 15 minutes before the workshop begins for registration and admission.

  • If hoisted three hours before the event starts, the event will be suspended. Rescheduling or refund arrangements will be announced in due course.

The Hong Kong Palace Museum reserves the right to reschedule or cancel events with or without refunding participants.
