Excavation Unit
An “excavation unit” is the basic working unit in field excavation. The size of the unit can vary depending on the actual cultural deposits, but the standard of 5 by 5 m is the most commonly used in site excavations.
Drawing
Archaeological drawing is crucial for objectively recording the appearance of the site; original data such as the shape, dimensions, and decoration of artefacts; and even cracks and other signs of damage. It is an essential step in archaeological research and artefact conservation.
Diary
The fieldwork diary is primarily used to document the process of archaeological fieldwork, including survey diaries, excavation site diaries, and “excavation unit” diaries. All professionals involved in archaeological work are required to maintain work diaries.
