This summer, the Hong Kong Palace Museum (HKPM or the Museum) once again presents the “Palace Academy Summer Art-venture Series” featuring an exciting array of learning offerings. Highlights include the much-anticipated Adventure Night @HKPM and the Little Archaeologists Summer Camp, both inspired by the rich legacy of ancient Egyptian civilisation, alongside a range of engaging workshops. Through thoughtfully curated encounters with exceptional artefacts and new exhibitions, the Museum invites families to explore history and art together, fostering curiosity and cross-cultural understanding in an inspiring setting.
One-stop summer family adventure invites visitors to discover ancient Egypt
Jointly organised by the HKPM and the Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA) of Egypt, and proudly supported by Bank of China (Hong Kong), the Museum’s Strategic Partner, with Cathay and UnionPay International as the Major Sponsors, “Ancient Egypt Unveiled: Treasures from Egyptian Museums” (“Ancient Egypt Unveiled”) is the largest, most comprehensive, and longest-running presentation of ancient Egyptian treasures in Hong Kong. Having welcomed over 420,000 visitors, the exhibition will run until 31 August and is set to be one of the city’s leading cultural highlights this summer. In response to strong public interest, the Museum will present various ancient Egypt-themed programmes, along with the regular Chinese art programme for families, children, and young people.
Palace Academy, the HKPM’s signature education hub, offers a diverse, creative suite of programmes for visitors of all ages and backgrounds. This summer marks the highly anticipated return of the “Palace Academy Summer Art-venture Series”. Among the highlights is Adventure Night @HKPM, taking place from 7 to 8 August. Final call for local residents and travellers to visit “From Dawn to Dusk” and “The Quest for Originality”
The HKPM offers an unparalleled opportunity for local residents and travellers seeking rich, distinctive cultural experiences this summer. Apart from “Ancient Egypt Unveiled”, another special exhibition “Treasures of Global Jewellery from The Metropolitan Museum of Art: The Body Transformed” (“Treasures of Global Jewellery”) presents a sweeping journey through the history of jewellery and adornment across civilisations. Jointly curated by The Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met) and the HKPM, “Treasures of Global Jewellery” covers five continents and nearly 4,000 years of history from the second millennium BCE to the 21st century, celebrating jewellery as a universal medium of artistic and cultural expression. The exhibition will run until 19 October, and Cathay and American Express are its Major Sponsors.
The HKPM’s opening exhibitions, “From Dawn to Dusk: Life and Art in the Forbidden City” (“From Dawn to Dusk”) at Gallery 2 and “The Quest for Originality: Contemporary Design and Traditional Craft in Dialogue” (“The Quest for Originality”) at Gallery 5, have been well-received in the past four years and will soon come to an end on 13 August. Both exhibitions have rotated part of their exhibits in mid-May, with a total of 20 items replaced, marking the final rotation within the exhibition period. Both exhibitions are jointly organised by the HKPM and the Palace Museum. “From Dawn to Dusk” invites the audience to experience court life from morning to bedtime through sumptuous treasures from the Palace Museum. “The Quest for Originality” explores the artistic value of traditional Chinese craftsmanship from three perspectives: innovation, materiality, and function, uncovering common ground with contemporary works.
