The WKCDA Board appoints new Chairman of the Board of Hong Kong Palace Museum Limited

29.06.2022

The West Kowloon Cultural District Authority (WKCDA) announced that the Board of WKCDA has appointed Ms Winnie Tam Wan-chi as the new Chairman of the Board of Hong Kong Palace Museum Limited (the HKPM Board), a wholly owned subsidiary of WKCDA, for a term of two years from 1 September 2022 to 31 August 2024.

Mr Henry Tang, Chairman of the Board of WKCDA, said, “Ms Winnie Tam actively participates in public service for many years. She has served on the Board of WKCDA since 2016 and has become the Chairman of the Performing Arts Committee under the WKCDA Board since 2020. I am pleased to have Ms Tam joining the HKPM Board at a time when the Hong Kong Palace Museum (HKPM) enters into operation and starts a new chapter. With her passionate commitment to arts and cultural development and comprehensive knowledge as well as understanding of the intricacies of the West Kowloon Cultural District project, I am confident that HKPM will continue to fulfill the core missions and visions in promoting traditional Chinese art and culture to the world and fostering dialogue among world civilisations.”

Mr Tang also expresses profound gratitude to the outgoing Chairman of the HKPM Board, Mr Bernard Charnwut Chan, who will step down towards the end of August this year, “Mr Chan was appointed the Founding Chairman of the HKPM Board in 2018. Since serving as the Chairman, Mr Chan has contributed tremendously to leading HKPM in taking forward many key tasks, from construction, establishment of the museum’s professional team, raising donations, to making preparation for the museum’s opening. Under his leadership, HKPM has successfully been completed without any budget overruns or delays, which is an exemplary record for projects in recent times in Hong Kong. As Mr Chan has taken on the M+ Board Chairmanship in April 2022, I eagerly look forward to continuing working closely with him to realise the vision and mission of M+.”

Hong Kong Palace Museum Limited is one of WKCDA’s wholly-owned subsidiaries. The HKPM Board is responsible for formulating the vision and mission, as well as the strategies, policies and guidelines in relation to museological matters and professional standards of HKPM’s operations.

The full membership of the HKPM Board with effect from 1 September 2022 is at Annex.
