Adorn Your Doll Workshop

21.07.2024
10:30 am–5:00 pm
Merit Hall, Palace Academy

During the 18th century, France’s reputation as the world’s fashion capital expanded, leaving a profound impact on other European countries. French fashion houses used fashion dolls to showcase intricate dress designs and hairstyles.

Join us to create a mini-dress on a small-scale mannequin with French draping. From choosing fabric to crafting a crinoline, pattern-cutting, and sewing, you can step into the shoes of a skilful French dressmaker from the 18th century!

This workshop includes:

  • A brief introduction to western fashion history from the 18th–20th centuries, including the use of crinoline in everyday life and its continued influence on today’s fashion.
  • A demonstration of French draping by a tailor.
  • A hands-on session to create your own dress.

Please note:

  • The workshop is open to all. No prior experience is required.
  • Sharp tools will be used during the workshop.
  • The course is divided into two sessions, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Participants are required to attend all sessions and should make their own lunch arrangements.
  • Each QR code can only be scanned once. Please keep your ticket safe for re-entry.
  • Exhibition ticket arrangement: This registration is for the captioned programme only. To visit our exhibitions, please click here.
