How does traditional gold craftsmanship continue to inspire contemporary design and innovation?
Mr Max Lam, General Manager, Creative & Design, Chow Tai Fook Jewellery Group, will share how traditional craftsmanship is reimagined through contemporary aesthetics, and explore how innovative collaborations—such as with the Palace Museum, Chiikawa, Black Myth and streetwear brand CLOT—are reshaping young audiences’ perceptions of gold craftsmanship. He will also reveal the design inspirations and backstory behind the medals for the 15th National Games.
Dr Tong Yu, Research Associate at the Art Museum, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, will offer insights into the various techniques and styles of ancient Chinese gold objects across different periods. He will also reflect on nearly a decade of collaborative research with Chow Tai Fook.
Additionally, the HKPM Curator Dr Yi-Li Hou will moderate a conversation with the speakers, exploring how traditional gold craftsmanship continues to evolve and transform within contemporary design practices, as well as highlighting the role of the Museum’s Mengdiexuan Collection in advancing the research study and learning of Chinese gold craftsmanship.
This activity is part of the “Chinese Gold Craftsmanship Heritage Education Programme” organised by the Hong Kong Palace Museum and lead sponsored by Chow Tai Fook Jewellery Group.
