Meet Betty Lo and Kenneth Chu, world-renowned collectors and owners of the Mengdiexuan Collection who donated 946 ancient Chinese gold and silver objects to the Hong Kong Palace Museum in 2022 as a founding collection for the Museum. Their generous donation has made the Museum’s Chinese gold and silver collection one of the best of its kind. Some of these objects are currently on view at “Radiance: Ancient Gold from the Hong Kong Palace Museum Collection and the Mengdiexuan Collection”. In dialogue with Dr Tianlong Jiao, Head Curator of the Hong Kong Palace Museum, the two donors will share their collecting journey, connoisseurship, and other insights into the meaningful exhibition.
This talk accompanies the special exhibition “Radiance: Ancient Gold from the Hong Kong Palace Museum Collection and the Mengdiexuan Collection” in Gallery 9 at the Museum. As the biggest exhibition in Hong Kong in recent years that highlights the artistic and technical achievements of gold in ancient China, the exhibition showcases more than 200 sets of gold objects, with the oldest dating back to the 18th century BCE, and many of them are shown to the public for the first time.
