“The Forbidden City and the Palace of Versailles: China-France Cultural Encounters in the Seventeenth and Eighteenth Centuries” Special Exhibition is jointly organised by the Hong Kong Palace Museum, the Palace Museum, and the Palace of Versailles, running from 18 December 2024 through 4 May 2025 at the Hong Kong Palace Museum. To accompany this exhibition, the symposium invites scholars from Hong Kong, the Mainland and around the world, to engage in a discourse on the cultural exchanges between the courts of China and France during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. These exchanges, which span various fields such as science and art, not only influenced the knowledge and aesthetic tastes of both courts but also profoundly shaped each side’s perception and imagination of one another.
This exhibition and symposium are financially supported by the Mega Arts and Cultural Events Fund under the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government. Cathay is the Lead Sponsor, and Tigillus Foundation and Centurion from American Express are the Major Sponsors of this special exhibition.
The talk will be livestreamed on the online platform of the HKPM WeChat Video Account, Zaiyi, and Museum Headlines.
