“The Hong Kong Jockey Club Series: Stories Untold — Figure Paintings of the Ming Dynasty from the Palace Museum” Exhibition Workshop: Painting and Calligraphy Mounting Masterclass

Accompanying this thematic exhibition, "The Hong Kong Jockey Club Series: Stories Untold — Figure Paintings of the Ming Dynasty from the Palace Museum", this workshop offers a practical mounting experience using a replica of a selected exhibit, and introduces commonly used mounting tools.

  

  • Instruction and demonstration by the veteran artist Ng Kwun Lun Tony.
  • Session 1:

    1. Brief introduction to the history of mounting Chinese paintings and calligraphy
    2. Application of mounting materials and tools
    3. Demonstration
    4. Classroom practice: lining (including procedures such as glue making, lining, and pasting the work onto a drying wall)

Session 2:

    1. Demonstration
    2. Classroom practice: mounting and backing (including procedures such as sizing, mounting, waxing, and rubbing)
  • Participants will use a replica of a selected exhibit from the exhibition, "The Hong Kong Jockey Club Series: Stories Untold — Figure Paintings of the Ming Dynasty from the Palace Museum" as a practice material and take home the finished work (A3 size) after completing the two-session workshop.

 

Please note:

  • No prior experience is required.
  • The workshop is recommended for participants aged 12 or above.
  • An A3-sized replica of a selected exhibit from Gallery 4 will be provided at the workshop.
