“The Hong Kong Jockey Club Series: The Art of Armaments — Qing Dynasty Military Collection from The Palace Museum” Exhibition Workshop: Intaglio Etching workshop

Workshop

07.10.2025
10:30 am–1:30 pm
Magnus Hall, Palace Academy

Copperplate printmaking originates from Europe and refers to the process of creating imagery on a metal plate through techniques such as engraving or acid etching, followed by printing onto paper. Inspired by the copperplate prints from Qing dynasty displayed at the Hong Kong Palace Museum’s thematic exhibition, “The Hong Kong Jockey Club Series: The Art of Armaments — Qing Dynasty Military Collection from The Palace Museum”, this workshop invites participants to learn about the techniques and development of this significant collection, and to experience the process of printmaking.

What you will get from this workshop:

  • Discover the Art of Printmaking: Learn about the history and development of printmaking and explore the stories behind the exhibits.
  • Get Creative: Design and engrave an image on your own copperplate.
  • Experience Hands-on Printing: Learn about the printing process, including soaking and removing acid from the copperplate, and printing your own pieces.

This workshop accompanies the thematic exhibition “The Hong Kong Jockey Club Series: The Art of Armaments — Qing Dynasty Military Collection from The Palace Museum”. The exhibition is jointly organised by the Hong Kong Palace Museum and The Palace Museum. It is solely sponsored by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust.

Please note:

  • The workshop is recommended for participants aged 13 or above.
  • The workshop is open to participants of all skill levels. No prior experience is required.
  • Sharp tools and acid will be used during the workshop and the protective gloves will be provided.
