“The Hong Kong Jockey Club Series: Treasures of the Mughal Court from the Victoria and Albert Museum” Special Exhibition Talk | From Curation to Design: Immersive Storytelling of Mughal Court’s Diverse Cultures

The Mughal court maintained close cultural exchanges and relations with China's Ming and Qing courts of the same period, leading to significant advancements in arts within the imperial courts. As the exhibition’s only venue in Asia, the HKPM introduces a unique curatorial perspective—by highlighting the interchanges between the Mughal court and China—based on the content of its London premiere. Presented by the HKPM curator, this talk will explore the rich cultural synthesis that characterises Mughal court art from the common Chinese elements appeared in artworks created by the Mughal court workshops, and the Chinese porcelains collected by the Mughal emperors. The exhibition designer will also offer a window into the in-gallery multimedia elements, such as the immersive art installation of Taj Mahal, and share how the design team enable visitors to experience the allure of the Mughal dynasty through digital storytelling and spatial design.

This talk accompanies the special exhibition “The Hong Kong Jockey Club Series: Treasures of the Mughal Court from the Victoria and Albert Museum”, which is on view in Gallery 8 at the Hong Kong Palace Museum from 6 August 2025 to 23 February 2026. The exhibition is jointly organised by the V&A and Hong Kong Palace Museum, and is solely sponsored by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust. Approximately 100 treasures from the V&A Collection, supported by loans from Kuwait, UK, and other international collections, range from paintings to jewellery, architectural fragments, weaponry, textiles, and ceramics. The Hong Kong Palace Museum, the Chris Hall Collection at the Hong Kong Palace Museum, and the Collection of Mengdiexuan also provide important loans.

The talk will be livestreamed on the online platforms of the HKPM WeChat Video Account, as well as Museum Headlines and Zaiyi.
