The Chris Hall Collection at the Hong Kong Palace Museum is one of the world’s most comprehensive and significant collections of historical Chinese textiles. It includes nearly 3,000 works from the Warring States period (475–221 BCE) to the 21st century. In this talk, Mr Chris Hall, the collector who built this remarkable collection, will share his passion for Chinese textiles and why he decided to offer this collection as a promised gift to the Museum.
This talk accompanies the thematic exhibition “A History of China in Silk: The Chris Hall Collection at the Hong Kong Palace Museum”, which is on view in Gallery 6 until 6 April 2026.
“The Hong Kong Palace Museum Collections and Collectors Talk Series” aims to shed new light on the art collecting and creative journeys of the HKPM donors, inviting audiences to appreciate the aesthetic, historical, and cultural significance of the many outstanding works donated to the HKPM. The talk series will also highlight the rich art-collecting cultural traditions of Hong Kong and its unique position as a centre for Chinese art collecting and research.
