Radiance: Ancient Gold from the Mengdiexuan Collection of the Hong Kong Palace Museum

Chinese Art, Chinese Archaeology
2026

Published by the Hong Kong Palace Museum, Radiance: Ancient Gold from the Mengdiexuan Collection of the Hong Kong Palace Museum, part of the Hong Kong Palace Museum Collection Series, is available in both Traditional Chinese (published in October 2026) and English (estimated 2027).

Ms Betty Lo and Mr Kenneth Chu, owners of the Mengdiexuan Collection, generously made two major donations to the Museum in 2022 and 2024, totalling nearly 1,400 objects. These highly significant donations from the Mengdiexuan Collection are the largest group of donations received by the Museum since its establishment. Focusing on gold and silver objects from the Mengdiexuan Collection held by the Museum, this catalogue features six essays by Raphael Wong, Fang Jiemin, Zhang Yanfen, Tong Yu, Yang Junchang, Jessie Liang, Rita Cheung, Shao Yanbing, and Cara Tsui, which investigate treasures from the HKPM Mengdiexuan Collection from the perspectives of art history, archaeology, conservation, and preservation, exploring the artistic styles and historical significance of ancient gold ornaments. It also includes more than 200 sets of curated masterpieces from the Mengdiexuan Collection, each accompanied by high-resolution images that reveal the details of the artefacts. Selected exhibits are supplemented with scholarly commentaries, offering multiple perspectives on the collection’s cultural significance.
