Ms Rachel Leung

Assistant Curator of Hong Kong Palace Museum

Rachel Leung earned her MPhil degree in Humanities from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. A key member of the curatorial team, Ms Leung has contributed to the Hong Kong Palace Museum’s opening exhibitions “Entering the Forbidden City: Architecture, Collection, and Heritage” and “Grand Gallop: Art and Culture of the Horse”, and serves as a co-curator of the special exhibition “Odysseys of Art: Masterpieces Collected by the Princes of Liechtenstein”. Prior to her appointment at the Hong Kong Palace Museum, she served at the Sun Museum in Hong Kong from 2015 to 2020, first as Assistant Curator and later as Associate Curator. She has made significant curatorial contribution to thirty-six exhibitions with themes ranging from Chinese ceramics to twentieth-century Chinese paintings and Hong Kong contemporary paintings, and was involved in the editing and translation of ten museum publications. Her research interests include Chinese landscape painting in the early Qing dynasty and the culture of the Qing imperial court.

Dr Xu Yang

Associate Curator of Hong Kong Palace Museum

Dr Xu Yang is an Associate Curator of the Hong Kong Palace Museum. He received his doctorate in Architectural History from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Dr Yang has co-curated the Museum’s thematic exhibition “Encountering the Majestic: Portraits of Qing Emperors and Empresses”, and the special exhibition “Odysseys of Art: Masterpieces Collected by the Princes of Liechtenstein”. He is currently leading the curatorial and publication project “Yuanmingyuan: Garden Art and Qing Court Life” (working title). Prior to his appointment at the Hong Kong Palace Museum, he was a postdoctoral fellow at the National University of Singapore. He began his career early on at the National Museum of China. A specialist in East Asian architectural history and garden art, his scholarly interests concern the dynamics between architecture, images, and archives. He acted as the co-investigator of a project granted by the National Social Science Fund of China, and has published in academic journals such as Cultural Relics, Palace Museum Journal, Architectural Journal, and Orientations.
