Membership Terms and Conditions

Unless otherwise specified, the term ‘members’ refers to all individuals with paid membership from all membership tiers including HKPM Friends Individual (single & dual), Family, Youth and Seniors Membership; HKPM Patron and any members of other membership tiers which may be introduced by Hong Kong Palace Museum Limited as it deems appropriate.

1. Membership

1.1 The Hong Kong Palace Museum ("HKPM") Membership Scheme is valid for 12 months from the date of purchase.

1.2 Memberships are classified into the following types, each with different annual fee.

1.2.1 HKPM Friends - Individual (Single & Dual)

1.2.2 HKPM Friends - Youth

1.2.3 HKPM Friends - Family

1.2.4 HKPM Friends - Seniors

1.2.5 HKPM Patron (Single & Dual)

1.2.6 HKPM Friends and M+ Member Combo Membership

1.2.6.1 This membership is valid for 13 months from the date of purchase.

1.2.6.2 This membership confirmation email and welcome kit will be sent to the members by HKPM & M+ separately.

1.2.7 HKPM and M+ Combo Patron Membership

1.2.7.1 This membership is valid for 12 months from the date of purchase.

1.2.7.2 This membership confirmation email and welcome kit will be sent to the members by HKPM & M+ separately.

1.3 Applicants must present a valid identification document or full-time student card to purchase HKPM Friends - Youth Membership or the youth member under the Family Membership, or present a valid identification document for verification during their first visit to the Museum.

1.4 The guardian of a Child Member must present a school handbook, student card, birth certificate, or other identification document of the Child Member for verification during their first visit to the Museum.

1.5 Applicants must pay the full membership fee for HKPM Friends Membership if the supporting document for other membership types cannot be provided.

1.6 Gift memberships are not redeemable for cash and must be activated within 90 days from the purchasing date. The membership will be valid for 12 months from the date of redemption. If it is not redeemed within such prescribed period, the membership will be forfeited automatically without notice and without any refund or compensation.

1.7 For online membership purchase, the confirmation email with a temporary admission QR code will be sent to the member’s registered email. The QR code will be valid for 14 days from the transaction date. Membership card will be sent by mail to the registered address of the member or the primary member in around 14 working days from the transaction date. Longer delivery time shall be expected for postage to non-Hong Kong addresses.

1.8 For online Family Membership purchase, the confirmation email with a temporary admission QR code will be sent to the respective adult member separately. The membership information of the Child and/or Youth Members and their QR code(s) will be included in the confirmation email of the primary member. All membership cards will be sent to the registered address of the primary member.

1.9 For online dual membership purchase, the confirmation email with a temporary admission QR code will be sent to the respective adult member separately and both membership cards will be sent to the registered address of the primary member in case the secondary member did not provide their mailing address.

1.10 Combo Membership is only applicable for applicants who do not have an active HKPM or M+ membership.

1.11 Membership fees are non-refundable.

1.12 Memberships are non-transferable and shall only be used by the member’s own use only. Designated HKPM staff shall be entitled to check the valid identification documents of members for verification purposes.

1.13 If the membership card is lost, stolen, or damaged, the Member must report this to HKPM immediately. A fee of HK$30 (per replacement) will be charged for the replacement of any lost, stolen or damaged membership cards.

1.14 For replacement of any lost, stolen or damaged membership card, HKPM membership team shall reissue a new membership card around 14 working days after the incident is reported. The reissued card shall be picked up in-person at the HKPM Membership counter at the reception on the lower ground floor (LG/F).

2. Membership Renewal

2.1 Memberships can be renewed during the membership year or within 30 days after expiry date, but not on the day of purchase.

2.2 Renewal is allowed only once per membership year.

2.3 Renewing members must maintain the same type of membership. The member must purchase a new membership after their current membership expires if they wish to change their membership type.

2.4 Renewals for individuals enrolled in the same membership package cannot be changed, with the exception of child members under the same family membership.

2.5 Renewals do not allow for the addition of new members.

2.6 Renewal reminder emails will only be sent to primary members (the purchaser).

2.7 In the event when an original membership is not eligible for renewal, all adult members will receive an email reminder to purchase new membership.

2.8 The renewed membership will take effect upon expiration of the current membership.

3. Membership upgrade

3.1 HKPM Friends may upgrade their membership to a Patron membership, or apply for a different membership type with a higher value by email us ([email protected]) and upon payment of the full membership fee for the ungraded membership. Membership fee paid for the old membership will be refunded to the member on a pro-rata basis within 8 weeks of the date of membership upgrade.

3.2 Members cannot downgrade their membership from upper tier.

3.3 The upgraded membership will be valid for 12 months from the date of membership upgrade.

3.4 Membership upgrades are not available to Child Members and Youth Member sunder Family membership.

3.5 Unredeemed benefits from the old membership will be forfeited and a new set of annual benefits will be granted for the upgraded membership.

3.6 A new membership card will be sent to the member's registered address in around 14 working days from the date of membership upgrade, and the old membership card will be deactivated and cancelled on the date of membership upgrade.

4. Use of membership benefits

4.1 Members must present their own membership card for admission to the Museum and to enjoy benefits or offers.

4.2 Members must observe all house rules and regulations of HKPM, which may be updated from time to time.

4.3 HKPM reserves the right to deny admission or to request a member to leave the museum if they fail to comply with any house rules and regulations.

4.4 Unless otherwise stipulated, all bookings for exhibitions, events, programmes, or other Member benefits or offers shall be made available to Members on a first-come, first-served basis.

4.5 HKPM reserves the right to amend, suspend, or terminate any benefit or offer at any time without prior notice and without any refund or compensation.

4.6 Individual exhibitions, events, programmes, benefits, or offers are subject to specific terms and conditions.

4.7 Discount offers are non-refundable and non-exchangeable for cash, and cannot be used in conjunction with other promotional offers.

4.8 HKPM may from time to time change the opening hours of the museum, close the museum or any part of it temporarily, or suspend or cancel any exhibition, event or programme without prior notice and without compensation, due to repair, maintenance, inclement weather, special events or if HKPM considers the circumstances so require. Members are advised to check the HKPM website before their visit.

4.9 Unlimited General Admission is available at all membership tiers by presenting valid membership card, without prior booking. This is not applicable to special exhibitions (Patrons are excluded).

4.10 Entry to Special Exhibitions

4.10.1 Members must present their own membership card at the entrance checking point. Members must present their Museum Admission Voucher (“voucher”) within the voucher validity period to enter special exhibitions.

4.10.2 Each voucher is valid for one person’s entry to special exhibitions and can be used only once.

4.10.3 Vouchers are non-transferable (except Patron) and non-exchangeable. Expired, damaged, modified, defaced, or photocopied vouchers will not be accepted. No replacement will be given for lost vouchers.

4.10.4 Use of the voucher is subject to the terms and conditions printed on the voucher.

5. General

5.1 HKPM reserves the right to amend these terms and conditions anytime without prior notice and without providing any reason. Updated terms and conditions will be provided on the HKPM website. All Members shall be bound by the latest terms and conditions.

5.2 HKPM has the absolute discretion on matters in relation to the approval of memberships, event bookings, programmes, offers, or benefits.

5.3 In case of any dispute, the decision of HKPM shall be final.

5.4 In the event of any discrepancy between the English and Chinese versions of these terms and conditions, the English version shall prevail.

5.5 These terms and conditions constitute an agreement between HKPM and each Member respectively. A person who is not a party to this agreement shall not have any rights under the Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Ordinance (Cap. 623) to enforce any term of this agreement.

5.6 These terms and conditions shall be governed by the laws of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China.
